conjugate system

so what can we do to more actively use the conjugate system ? Or what are ways to do that ?

  1. RJ, I'm not completely familiar with all of the components of the conjugate system. However, I do know that it takes a lot of the same ideas that we learn from non-mainstream crossfit lessons and implements them in a way that is beneficial for power lifters. Basically, when using the "conjugate system" conjugate being a big word for combined/complete, an athlete doesn't always use the same stuff to train with. For example, if you use a standard barbell for all of your backsquats, your body learns how to support that bar and that bar alone. What happens in real life is often times, we don’t have a perfectly balanced bar to lift the weights we need to lift. We don’t have a perfect round kettlebell to swing if we are out working to cut firewood and huck it into a trailer or toss an unbalance rock into a lake to make a big splash. My point is that, by replacing our standard training tools with supplementary training tools, our body and our minds learn to adapt to using our full work potential/capacity under varying conditions. The whole POINT of crossfit is to increase total work capacity over "broad time and MODAL domains". We do this by constantly varying our wods and using different equipment. I know I haven’t really shared this knowledge yet but crossfit has many levels of knowledge that I feel should be tackled a little at a time as to not overwhelm. As an athlete we get the basics down first, then expand as we gain proficiencies. Also, one thing that might be worth mentioning is this: It is important to train Optimally! not submaximally or maximally but Optimally. For example, when going for a heavy PR on back squat, if you attain it, Stop for the day on that. Train as hard as you can but trying to better a best on something heavy is not always productive or good for recovery. A few good examples to use for replacement equipment for a wod might be a small boulder for "box jumps", or sandbags for farmer carry's, or a loaded suitcase for overhead walking lunges. Keep your body guessing and off balance. THIS IS WHY CROSSFIT IS THE ULTIMATE TRAINING STYLE, there are no limits, no rules just standards, just you vs. the world. Conquer it by any means necessary.

  3. This is what I could find on the Conjugate Method. Go to www.westside-barbell.com and there is a tab on the bottom left hand side of the page regarding the Conjugate Method. You can read the article written by Louis Simmons himself. He is the "founder" of this method.
